When a few women end up dead and the only thing
they have in common is SKUL special agent
Mick Jasper, he is immediately under investigation
and stripped of his badge. SKUL hires Maggie Park
not only because of her ability to
blend in with society when undercover but her
uncanny ability to know things she shouldn't.
Little does the agency know that Maggie is a
witch and has special powers she uses to her
advantage to clear special agent Jasper's name
and hopefully bring the real killer to justice before
the killer figures out who she really is.

I'm not sure what to say. The murder mystery was good enough and not super easy to figure out. Some people might have seen it coming, but I did not. I'm not sure it all came together completely smoothly, but there were other problems, so...whatever.

And Maggie is as wonderful as ever. I really like this character. And her car, Vinnie. Even catty Sherry acquitted herself well and so did Mrs. Hubbard. Mom comes across very well in this one, too. Poor Abram is nowhere to be seen and given that he was almost going to be murdered over being a stupid lovesick sap, that was probably for the best. At least he is mentioned.

And then it kind of falls apart outside of that. The author just completely sabotaged all the other characters she had built us up to like and care about.

Through Maggie's reactions we know the author is aware that these people aren't coming across very well. Maggie is appalled at what Meme and her witchy "Book Club" friends do to various mortals. If the main character is aware then surely the author has to be aware this is really going to put some people off.

And these scenes really aren't necessary the way they are. Unless the author wants us to think witches are ignorant psychopaths. I know witches did stupid cringeworthy things in Bewitched to mortals but things that happened in a 1960's comedy don't necessarily translate well here and certainly not the way they were written.

They turn one poor woman into a very vulnerable prey animal just because one of the witches wanted a pet for her grandchildren. They then try to hide the fact they could reverse the transformation because it would incur a three month probation. Three months is apparently too high a price to pay for a completely innocent human life. Really, the woman was doing nothing wrong. She wasn't even a threat to their secret. She's a young woman, too, probably with family that would have been suffering had she gone permanently missing. Worse, in animal form she seemed to be miserable and terrified. Maggie makes most of those points and then shrugs it all off because she can't do much about it. Fine, but as readers what are we supposed to think of these sorts of people?

Aunt Meme herself was going to do the equivalent of murder a man because he dared date someone else after she rejected him for ages. As it was she was pretty violent to him until Maggie by sheer luck intervened in time.

I see in all the other reviews this seems to bother only me, so I guess the author is doing okay but sorry to say any humor or value in the characterizations went over my head.

Mick is inexplicably ruined for me, at least. Sorry, he just makes no sense anymore. Numerous times he denies being a Casanova and even talks about how careful he is about letting women into his life, but then every available evidence seems to refute that assertion and makes a complete liar out of him. I kept waiting for the author to make sense of that for us and show us it was somehow a misunderstanding. He even contradicts himself about that. Maggie doesn't really seem to question, react, or follow up on this at all.

Don't get me started about sloppy word choice and writing and typos and an overall sense that the author was getting tired as she wrote this and was just trying to get through it. Was this book even edited at all?

I'm actually pretty ticked off that such a wonderful premise and first book has been gradually let down by the second and third books. I saw some problems with the second book and the characters but I let it slide and gave it five stars. I can't do that with this one.

Get Witch or Die Trying A Cozy Paranormal Mystery Spies And Spells Series Book Three edition by Tonya Kappes Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I did receive an ARC of this book and I have purchased this book....I love, love, love this book! A new case has come up from SKUL and the person who may be charged with the crime is non other than Mick Jasper! 3 women murdered and the link between them is Mick. Will Maggie, Mick and the SKUL team be able to solve the crime before Mick is charged? In the process Mick discovers Maggie's secret, will he stay away from her now or will he accept who she is? You will have to read this to find out!
This is a story about a family, a nosy neighbor and the ups and downs of a new job. Or is it?

The family just happen to all be witches, the neighbor is well, interesting to say the least and the job is with a super-secret spy company.

The third book in Tonya Kappes series. I’m going to be honest and tell you that it took me a while to get the “warm – fuzzies” about Maggie. This book was definitely the one that cemented the character for me and really kept me interested on every page.

Great writing, great characters, great book.
Special Agent Mick Jasper has been put on leave from SKUL, a government spy agency, until the murders of his former girlfriends are solved. Maggie Parks is called back in to SKUL to help with the cases. Using her witchy ways, Maggie attempts to find out who is framing Mick and to solve the murder cases before someone else is killed! Another great read from Mrs. Kappes! Love this series - funny, snarky and a little magic!
The third book in the Spies & Spells series. Maggie is still coming to into her Life's Journey with SKUL & the hunky Mick Jasper. When Mick seems to find himself under investigation for the murders of 3 of his former flames, Maggie is asked to step in & help him. She really doesn't believe iIck is capable of killing these women. She sets her mind to findingg out who is framing him & who is the mystery man in the black hat that seems to be following her. With the help of her family, her familiar Vinnie (whose a 64 mustang) & Maggie's witchy skills, Will she be in time to save Mick & not end up a victim herself.
I love this series.  Mick and Maggie are partners again.  This time to find out who is framing Mick for killing his prior girlfriends...3 so far.  Maggie goes to art festival with Mick, meets artist Angela.  Angela has a painting that she claims she did only she really didn't paint it.  Then there's the mystery man in the hat that keeps following Maggie.  Mick thinks he's going nuts and has to talk to Dr Artie while he was put on leave from Skul.  Lots of twists to this story.  Maggie figures out more about Micks past and all the girlfriends he has trying to help solve the case.  So the question is who killed the women?  Is Maggie in danger?  Who is the man in the hat- the killer??  Read on, fun story..and will Maggie's tell Mick she is a witch?
When women from Mick's past start dying. Maggie is tasked to work with Sherry to look into their past as see if there are any other connections. As it seems that any woman that Mick may have been involved with, Maggie may be in danger herself.

Mick discovers that Maggie is a real life witch, and since none of Maggie's spells will work on him, she is wondering how this will affect their future relationship. Working or otherwise.

This is the final story in the Spies and Spells series. I was sad to see it come to an end.
I think that this one is my favorite of the series so far. Women are turning up dead and the only tie seems to be her partner at SKUL Mick. Maggie knows it is a set up and begins piecing together with the help of other agents and her special powers who is behind this.
I love that some of the characters are a little more toned down and much more likable in this book. Maggie does a little more standing up for herself and her relationship with Mick takes a turn. A thoroughly enjoyable read. The mystery kept me guessing with an interesting twist. I will definitely continue on with this series.
